It’s been rumored for a while, but we can now confirm that BRP will be unveiling a brand new Can-Am Commander at the Sand Sports Super Show in Torrance, Calif. on Sept. 14, 2012. Rumor around the forums and spy sites relay it will be dubbed the “Maverick” which love or hate the name, should be badass.
We thought Can-Am would be looking to introduce a four-seat Commander, but the Canadian manufacturer released a teaser image that looks very much like a machine aimed at the Polaris RZR XP 900 and Arctic Cat Wildcat 1000. 2013 Can-Am Commander Maverick Comparison
The first thing that stands out is that the new 2013 Can-Am Commander Maverick doesn’t look like it has much of a bed, which suggests a pure-sport machine. As well, it looks like it has a wider stance and perhaps a longer wheelbase which is great for aftermarket wheels and tires and if they are chasing the industry standard, they will more than likely have
Unfortunately, we don’t get any glimpse of the suspension, as BRP is clearly trying to build up some excitement for the official unveiling of the 2013 Can-Am Commander Maverick which is scheduled for the Super Sand Sport Show coming up this month in Costa Mesa, California.
We’d guess the sporty new Commander features the same 976cc V-Twin engine as the Commander 1000 X, but it’s possible it has been tuned a little differently to churn out more than 85-horsepower of the other Commander 1000 models as besting the 88-horsepower of the RZR XP 900 would be a feather in BRP’s cap. However, all of this is pure speculation.
